What’s an amenity?
You’ll have to decide how important certain amenities are when you’re deciding where to look for a home. An amenity could be anything that makes your home more comfortable and pleasant to live in, such as a yard, a washer and dryer, an alarm system, or a dishwasher. If you live in a high-demand urban area, you may find yourself paying more for certain perks, while you may pay less for the same amenities in smaller suburban or rural areas.

The type of work you do or plan to do will probably have a big effect on where you end up living. Of course, that’s not the way everyone decides — some people eliminate career options depending on where they already live or where they want to live. But whatever your priorities are, you’ve got a number of alternatives to consider, each with its strengths and weaknesses.
